Innovative solution for sustainable off-grid energy access in Senegal
Landlocked between Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, the Kolda region is particularly vulnerable and benefits from little infrastructure, isolating rural populations.
The project aims to deploy individual solar kit systems accessible through Pay As You Go (PAYG) including SmartPhones also sold through PAYG thanks to a proprietary technology developed specifically to allow users to pay back the kit and have access to high value-added content (educational, cultural, health, business).
Solar energy provides a first level of access to clean and reliable energy. The "MoonPhone" facilitates exchanges with often isolated populations and gives them access to high added value content (health, education, business...). It also offers a first level of financial inclusion, as it allows beneficiaries to pay back the kit by mobile money.
For this project, MOON obtained eligibility for the SolInAE programme (Innovative solutions for access to sustainable off-grid energy) launched by ADEME and AFD, thanks in particular to its strong local roots and the technological and organisational innovations of the proposed business model.
