Preliminary study of the hydroelectric potential of the vjosa valley
Tirana, AlbaniaHydropower
The Vjosa is a transboundary river in southern Albania. It has its source in Greece (the Aoos), in the Pindos in Epirus. It flows from east to west for 270 km, crosses deep gorges, a succession of widenings and narrowings before entering a wide plain and flows into the Adriatic Sea north of the city Vlorë.
The objective of the project is to establish the hydroelectric potential not attributed to a concessionaire and to propose a development scheme with a view to obtaining the concession. It consists of implementing the following phases:
- Inventory and diagnosis of the current situation of the water resources of the Vjosa basin, both quantitative and qualitative;
- Analysis and evaluation of the pressures and socio-economic stakes of the basin;
- Geological analysis of the Vjosa basin and identification of the major risks;
- Analysis and evaluation of the geomorphology of the basin to identify the type of development and its positioning.
- Identification of the hydroelectric potential in terms of power and producibility
- Analysis and evaluation of the electrical transmission network to propose the infrastructures to be implemented
- Techno-economic analysis for each proposed development.
- This project was carried out by the CNR with prior reconnaissance visits.
