Energy and rural development : gasification for the cooperative Ayiminazé in Benin
Ayiminazé is a rural women-led organisation in the South of Benin that produces cassava flour and palm oil since 30 years. The 20 farmers produce yearly 6 tons of cassava flour and 4 800 litres of palm oil.
Despite the success of their commercial activity, the lack of energy impacts severely their productivity and expenditures. In addition, the cooperative uses petrol and wood to transform their crops, leading to negative effects, such as harmful toxic fumes, CO2 emissions and deforestation.
Our project is to find an alternative by valuing, unused agricultural waste (biomass) generated by the agro-processing chain to provide electricity and thermic energy (heat) necessary to the process.
As a result, it will reduce the use of fossil energy and the deforestation stress, while increasing the cooperative's yield and social benefits.
This SDG7 project will demonstrate that our off-grid system is efficient for agricultural development needs and can be a sustainable alternative to wood and diesel generators.
Detail of the equipment used
Our system will have the following component : air inlet, gasifier, cyclone filter, heat exchanger, cooling loop, bag filter, air filter, gas engine and alternator.
